Virginia Beach native learns to love yoga, teaches others to do the same
Although millions of people all over the world have achieved good health through the relaxing practice of yoga, many more are skeptical of the myriad benefits that have been associated with the regimen. To these individuals, enhancing one's emotional, mental and physical well-being all at once may seem too good to be true.
Hampton Roads, a Virginia Beach publication, reported that yoga instructor Kate Patterson was one of these people before she discovered the benefits of the exercise for herself.
"I was a runner and was used to moving and pushing myself, and it didn't click," she said of yoga, quoted by the news source. "[Eventually] I realized that it was such a very healing method. It changed my life."
Patterson now teaches the exercise in Hawaii but hopes to move it back to her hometown of Virginia Beach, where she will be hosting a three-day mindfulness festival later this week.
The event features various workshops that focus on improving holistic health through the gentle stretches, deep breathing and calming postures of yoga.
Attending such sessions can help even the most skeptical individuals find out the positive effects of the regimen for themselves.
