Dahn yoga lovers may be looking for serenity, peace and calmness as well as spiritual enlightenment. Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe, is certainly not a peaceful movie. However, it offers its dose of inspiration in ways that dahn yoga enthusiasts may appreciate. One can certainly alternate between watching dahn yoga DVDs and such Hollywood classics as Gladiator.
Maximus Decimus Meridius is a general in the Roman army whose wife and son have been killed by the evil Commodus, who himself committed patricide. Commodus is played by Joaquin Phoenix in a truly horrific and evil role.
Maximus' journey to find Commodus takes him to Zucchabar, North Africa, as well as to the Roman Colosseum, where as a gladiator he fights against tigers and Tigris of Gaul, a formidable foe. Maximus' fate is not one of longevity but his bravery in battle and his fierce determination to uphold what is right is an inspiration for many who watch the movie.
Gladiator was directed by Ridley Scott and won multiple awards including Best Picture at the Oscars. Fans of the movie are still waiting for a prequel or sequel to be filmed.
