The Golden Gate Bridge may be a great destination for reflection
Though tai chi movements can truthfully be practiced wherever there is space for them, most practitioners would agree that these exercises are more potent in the presence of an impressive environment. Most prefer to gaze at the incomparable beauty of the natural world, while others draw inspiration from the achievements of man. For those tai chi advocates who will be exploring the country during their summer vacations, Travel + Leisure magazine has recently released a list of the most beautiful natural and man-made landmarks in the country.
For natural sites, travelers who go through upstate New York won't want to miss the world-renowned cascade at Niagara Falls. The immense power of rushing water tumbling 167 feet to a river below will give visitors a sense of the raw strength of Mother Nature, and a great understanding of the energy surrounding them. This will make them more conscious of their tai chi movements, and increase their effectiveness.
Straddling the line between natural and man-made is Mount Rushmore, a beautiful mountain located in South Dakota's Black Hills that features the intricate carvings of four of the U.S.'s most celebrated presidents. In addition to its historical significance, the mountain is a solid reminder of the impact man can have on his surroundings, reminding viewers that this influence can, at times, be a beautiful thing.
For the man-made end, Travel + Leisure ranks the Golden Gate Bridge as one of the country's most beautiful sights. This San Francisco landmark is a monument to ingenuity and represents the hard work of millions of talented workers to bring distant places together in a unique and wondrous way.
Other sites listed in the rankings include The Coyote Buttes in Arizona, giant sequoias in Kings Canyon National Park, Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii and the Taos Pueblos in New Mexico.
