The Lodi News-Sentinel reports that instructor Brenda Norris first began studying the ancient exercise 16 years ago. When her tai chi teacher left for vacation, she took over the classes and has been introducing the rejuvenating regimen to enthusiasts ever since.

"It really helps to de-stress. I can vouch for that," Norris told the news source, adding that tai chi helps her slow down and remain calm. "Balance is something a lot of people come in and say they really need to work on."

She explained that teaching her classes is rewarding because she gets to see how much energy her students put in and all the benefits they get out of the tranquil program.

Most yoga and tai chi sessions welcome individuals of all experience levels, and beginners are encouraged to try the techniques for themselves. Norris stated that she begins each class with seated work and meditation to help ease attendees into the practice.

Her advice to someone who wants to learn the ancient Eastern art is to "put themselves into their own schedule. In other words, do it," she told the media outlet. "Go with the flow, which just means don't be concerned about what you're doing, especially in the beginning."
