Energy healing meditation can help prostate cancer patients deal with stress

Men who receive the news that they have prostate cancer face a slew of questions: How fast will the malignancy grow? How aggressive does my treatment need to be? What lifestyle changes should I make? An oncologist who promotes integrating holistic health with conventional care believes that one of the first steps a man should take is managing stress, which can be accomplished with the help of energy healing meditation.
"Extensive research shows that psychological stress can negatively affect every biological system in the body and these biological changes can literally get right into the tumor micro-environment, making it more hospitable for cancer growth," Lorenzo Cohen of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center told the Huffington Post. "Different forms of relaxation or meditation and/or movement-based practice like yoga and tai chi can be very helpful."
Other lifestyle factors to consider are diet, physical activity, alcohol consumption and smoking status. Meanwhile, patients need to carefully weigh all of their treatment options and consult several physicians about picking the best one.
Cohen himself is currently conducting a study on the effects of tai chi exercises and qigong on men undergoing radiotherapy for prostate cancer. Although the trial has yet to be completed, the men have reported enjoying the regimen.
